These paintings take imagery from the periphery of art historical paintings as a point of departure; for example, a bird is appropriated from an early Spanish still life painting.
Improvisations occur where figurative and abstract images are made in parallel.
The paintings on wood take the work a step further; they have the appearance of expressive, modernist paintings, however they come directly from an attempt to copy the improvised paintings on paper.
